Junior roller derby is played in four levels:

Skill Level 0 (Beginning Skaters) - Beginning skaters are learning to skate and practicing basic safety, skating, stopping, and falling. They do not play derby, but focus on learning basic derby skills.

Skill Level 1 - Level 1 skaters are mastering their skates, learning basic game play and teamwork, and beginning to scrimmage using positional blocking. They are learning the rules and basic strategy. Level one skaters do not bout but will scrimmage during practices.

Skill Lower Level 2 (LL2) - These skaters have shown growth and progression in their skill level. They have passed all level one skills but are still learning basic gameplay, rules, and strategy. Lower level 2 skaters will not play in bouts but will participate in league scrimmages.

Skill Level 2 - Level 2 skaters are playing using pushing/leaning contact. They are learning more advanced  teamwork, rules and regulations and strategy. Practices will build on strength and endurance as well as strategic play. Typically, skaters are age 9 or above when they meet Level 2 requirements, but there is no set age requirement. Level 2 skaters will play regulation games or scrimmage amongst teammates.

Skill Level 3 - Level 3 skaters have passed all skill assessments and demonstrated adult level competency on skates and with the rules. Level 3 skaters practice, scrimmage, and play using full contact rules. Level 3 skaters play JRDA sanctioned games for rankings, this includes post season and championship game play.  Level 3 skaters are expected to help teach lower level skaters and be ambassadors for the league.
